FAQ's

Written by

Is there anything special I need to do to maintain my salt chlorinater?

Answer:

We recommend adding Stain and Scale regularly as it helps break down scale and stops it forming on the cells of the chlorinater. This will also assist in the manual cleaning process as it keeps the scale softer. Keeping the scale build up reduced makes the cell more efficient and your pool fresher.

My son always seems to come out with itchy skin after swimming. Is there anything I can do to reduce this?

Answer:

Chlorine is an essential part of having your water balanced correctly, but if the dose is too high or an oxidiser isn't used, then some people can experience an itchy rash. Keeping your water balanced correctly with specialised products can help reduce the reaction. Sanitisers, or chlorine, is used to prevent algae and kill bacteria and is available in granules or tablets for easy use. Oxidisers destroy organic contaminants and regular use helps keep the water clean and healthy, the BioGuard range that we stock includes Burn Out Extreme and Lite. Algaecides are used to kill aglae and prevent the water from turning green, products we stock for this are MSA Extreme, Algi Destroyer and Polygard Concentrate. Balancers help keep the ideal mineral levels in the water, chemical factors such as pH, total alkalinity and calcium all need to be properly balanced to help the sanitiser work properly.

My water seems to be turning cloudy, how can I stop this?

Answer:

The first thing to check is if your filtering system is working properly. Using a specialised product such as Filter Brite can help clean the filter. You should also check the chlorine and pH levels, ensuring they are in the ideal range and to adjust if necessary. Another posibility could be that there is a large amount of organic matter or dead algae in the water, which can happen after heavy use and rain. This matter can be taken care of with the use of clarifiers such as Polysheen Plus and Super Clear Clarifying Tablets, which binds the particles together for easier extraction.

I'm going away for a week or two. What can I add to the pool to help while I'm away?

Answer:

It's best not to let the pool sit unattended for more than a week as it encourages bacteria growth and causes debris build up. We recommend shocking your pool first with Burn Out Extreme and adding an algaecide to help prevent the water from turning green. Running your filtration system on a timer for at least 12 hours is ideal and be sure to stop in for a water test after your holidays to help keep your water balanced properly. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, why not try adding an Ezi Floater to help keep the chlorine level up.

How often should I test my water?

Answer:

We recommend checking your water a minimum of once a week for most pools. Making sure to thoroughly check your water on a regular basis will help ensure consistancy and help keep the costs down.

My eyes seem to be red and sore after I get out of the pool. How can I avoid this?

Answer:

Red and irritated eyes occur when exessive chemicals are found in the water. The best way to avoid this is to keep your pool properly balanced, especially the pH and sanitiser levels.

Can I use pool chemicals in my spa?

Answer:

It isn't recommended to use pool chemicals in spa pools, even though it may seem as though they are similar products. We stock a range of speciality spa products for every need with Chlorinated Concentrate for use as a spa sanitiser to Aquality, which lowers the pH and total alkalinity for better water balance as well as other balancing chemicals.

What is the best way to keep my pool clear?

Answer:

There are several steps you can take to ensure you keep your pool water clear and healthy. One is to make sure you keep the water circulating, at least 12 hours a day in swimming season as this helps for pool chemicals to be distributed evenly. Also make sure to clean the filter with a regular backwash. Filters can also be chemically cleaned with products such as Filter Brite which help to remove scale and other debris. All pools can have 'dead spots', where the water circulation just isn't as good and promotes algae and bacteria growth. The best way to remedy this, is by regular vacuuming and brushing of the walls and surface of the pool, ideally at least weekly. We have products to help with this process, including an All Purpose Pool Broom and All Brush Vacuum Head. Testing the water on a regular basis and using the correct chemicals all help to maintain a healthy pool.

Help! My pool has gone green! What do I do?

Answer:

The most effective and fastest way to treat a green pool is to shock it with a high dose of chlorine and to also use an algaecide. Products we recommend for this include Burn Out Extreme, Polygard Concentrate or Algi Destroyer, depending on the severity. Be sure to keep the pump and filter running for at least 10 during and after treatment, as long as possible is always best. When you find it becomes cloudy, this signals that the live algae has been destroyed and it's just a matter of using clarifiers to help turn to water back to crystal clear! If you require help with these steps or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us for information regarding this process and for professional help.
